Thank you so much for your inquiry into our Volunteer Helpline Advocate Position.
At Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Services (SAPARS), we have a 24-hour helpline designed to provide immediate support and information to survivors of sexual violence and those concerned about survivors. We provide that support through phone calls, and through medical and legal accompaniment.
Prior to joining the team as a volunteer advocate, individuals must attend a 40- hour training. After successful completion of the training, volunteers choose which Helpline shifts they would like to take on our monthly Helpline schedule. Our Helpline shifts are from 6a to 6p and 6p to 6a each day of the week.
Some requirements for advocates are:
-Reliable access to a vehicle or other safe mode of transportation
-Caring and compassionate
-Focus on empowering individuals, providing empathy and support, and providing information
-Ability to attend advocate meetings every 6 to 8 weeks
-Access to an e-mail account
-Successful completion of the advocate training
-Ability to maintain confidentiality
